Rarely has there been a more versatile gadget than the ever ready tension rod. They’re cheap, lightweight and can be moved from one home to another with ease. They’ll help you organize everything from jewelry and shoes to groceries and spices. So here’s some of my favorite tension rod hacks, some you may know others maybe completely new to you! Also referred to as a curtain rod they can be made of various materials including wood, metal and plastic. Tension rods come in a myriad of different styles and designs and whilst they are usually straight they can also be bought as curved and hinged poles allowing installation in bay windows and around curved walls and corners.

The tension rods used here are the longer version, the 27-42″ range. Each rod should hold about 4 pairs of shoes comfortably and if you need more shoe storage just add more rods. If you have a ceiling to floor space then you could easily fit about 6 rods which would give you about 24 pairs of shoes of storage. If you need more than that…well maybe you need to get down to the charity shop!

18. Combine wire baskets with tension rods for under sink storage
You can seriously maximize your under sink storage by adding baskets to help keep all your bathroom accessories and utensils neatly tucked away.
19. Secure sliding doors with tension rod
This is pure genius and again shows the endless uses for the tension rod. Sliding doors are notoriously used as entry for easy access to homes, so by adding a tension rod you’ll keep the door far more secure and less likely to be breached.
